A Portland for Everyone.
Keep Portland Affordable • Invest In Education • Build a Thriving, Fair Economy
Dear Portland Neighbors:
My name is Marpheen Chann and I'm running for Portland City Council District 5 (Deering Center, North Deering, and Riverton).
What Portland needs is someone with a vision and the energy to help move the city forward on property tax relief, education, and build a thriving, fair economy.
I grew up in Maine and lived in Portland with my single mother and three younger siblings in Riverton Park before being placed in foster care and adopted by a family in Naples, ME. I moved back to Portland and became the first of my family to earn a college degree from USM and law degree from Maine Law, where I studied property, real estate transactions, land use, federal mortgage and foreclosure law and state and local government.
I've had to work hard to get to where I am today, but it also took a village. I believe my life experiences as the son of refugees and adopted son of a white, working class family – with my strong resume of advocacy on LGBT, minority, and immigrant rights – makes me uniquely qualified as someone who can represent a broad, diverse set of interests on the council.
D.C. style politics has no place in Portland. And so we have to bring people together to find solutions for property tax relief and affordable housing for our young people, working families, and seniors and retirees, investing in education, and growing a thriving and fair economy.
I am a strong collaborator and negotiator. I take the time to listen. I build consensus and make sure no one is left out or left behind. And I take action.
I am looking forward to earning your vote for Portland City Council on Tuesday, Nov. 7th.
