Resident Senators and Gorham -based Leadership Have Space for Office Hours
Gorham, ME, May 24th, 2013 - Student Body Vice-President Marpheen Chann is pleased to announce efforts are moving forward to make the Husky Hut open to Resident Senators and Gorham-based student leaders for office hours. Gorham Student Life director Jason Saucier is working toward extending the use of the Husky Hut to allow Gorham student leaders to better serve residential students.
Efforts to make the Husky Hut available for office hours for the SGA and leaders from the various student organizations were the result of a concern raised in a meeting between Student Body Vice-President Marpheen Chann and Gorham Student Life Director Jason Saucier. The concern was in regards to student leadership being more Portland-based, which raises problems in terms of convenience for Gorham-based leadership and students who live on campus.
"For a long time, Residential Senators had to fit 3 hours in Portland into their often already cramped schedules in order to even have a vote at the next Senate meeting. The Husky Hut being open for Residential Senators in Gorham will ease a lot of unnecessary stress faced by many Residential Senators and even possibly some Commuter Senators." - Joshua Dodge, Resident Senator and Chair of the Constitutional Review Committee
Efforts to expand the use of the Husky Hut is a piece of the puzzle in terms of the broader effort to revitalize the Gorham campus, an issue that has been on the forefront of administrative officials and students alike. Allowing resident senators and student leaders an official place where they can serve and meet their fellow peers helps residential students to avoid traveling to Portland to discuss their issues and concerns.
"While it is a small step, it is a step in the right direction nonetheless. If we want a Gorham campus that is growing and moving forward, then we need student leaders who live on-campus to be able to work on-campus. Likewise, students who live on-campus can better resolve their issues and concerns where it is most convenient." - Marpheen Chann, Student Body Vice-President
