PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — The University of Maine at Presque Isle will host Marpheen Chann as its next speaker in the Libra Distinguished Lecturer Series on Thursday, Oct. 9 at 6 p.m. in the Campus Center’s Multi-Purpose Room and via Zoom.
Chann, a Portland, Maine-based writer and nonprofit director, will read from his memoir “Moon in Full: A Modern Day Coming-Of-Age Story”, which chronicles his search for truth and compassion during a complicated era of his life. The son of a Cambodian refugee, Chann was adopted into and raised by an evangelical, white working-class family. He will recount his journey toward reconciling his fears and secret longings as a young gay man with the devoutly religious beliefs of his new family.
This event is free and open to the public. Enjoy a reception with light refreshments served at 5:30 p.m. in the Campus Center MPR. Neighborhood Books will offer copies of “Moon in Full” for purchase after the talk. For more, contact Emma McNally at 207-768-9520 or emma.mcnally@maine.edu.
