WGME: Proposed changes to Portland leadership could head to voters

Commission member Marpheen Chann says he’s most excited about their recommendations regarding clean elections.

That program would offer public campaign funds to qualifying candidates.

He says not everyone can raise thousands of dollars needed for a campaign run.

“It’s that extra step we can take in Portland to remove barriers to participation in our local politics and allows ordinary folks, workers and teachers, to run for office,” Chann said.
